What mental health means to me - Natalie
Updated: 1 day ago

Mental health is important to me because it reminds us of something we often forget: behind every diagnosis, behavior, achievement, or setback is a human being with a story worth understanding. My own experiences have taught me what it feels like to search for connection, to navigate healing, and to realize that our struggles do not define our worth. They become part of the stories that shape us. Those experiences inspired me to pursue my PhD in clinical psychology, but they also inspired me to create Voices Meet Minds.
I founded Voices Meet Minds because I believe healing begins when we feel safe enough to be seen. Throughout my journey in research, clinical work, and the people I've had the privilege of meeting, I've come to believe that no single perspective can capture what it means to be human. Every person carries a unique lens shaped by their experiences, relationships, culture, and resilience. When we choose curiosity over judgment and conversation over assumptions, we create space for understanding.
My hope is that Voices Meet Minds becomes more than an organization. I hope it becomes a community where vulnerability is met with compassion, diverse perspectives are celebrated, and people leave feeling a little less alone than when they arrived. To me, mental health isn't about striving for perfection or eliminating struggle. It's about embracing our shared humanity, honoring every person's story, and believing that even our most difficult chapters can become places where connection, growth, and hope begin.
